National Gardening Week celebrated with new website feature

To coincide with National Gardening Week from 10th – 16th April we’re delighted to announce our new What’s Growing on the Greenway addition to our website. With over 300 trees planted in C.S. Lewis Square alone, more than 50 different types of plants and shrubs along the Greenway and new riverside planting, we are keen to watch, learn and record what and how well the Greenway is growing.

New sections to be named by public

Connswater Community Greenway will open its final section at the end of April and as part of that we're asking the public to come forward and name 6 new additions. This process has proven popular already with the public naming the James Ellis Bridge, Sam Thompson Bridge and Grace Bannister Bridge as well as the new pathway – Marshwiggle Way which connects Braniel to Orangefield Park.

Bridges, pathways and parks are critical in connecting people and places so we're keen to involve the local community in choosing the names for these vital connections.

Four in a row openings conclude with family fun day

Last week was a busy one in Connswater Community Greenway HQ as we opened four sections featuring a further 4kms of new cycle and pedestrian paths, two new play parks, two new multi-use games areas and two new bridges.

New section on the Greenway opens to the public

Well-known east Belfast Actor, the late, James ‘Jimmy’ Ellis, famed for his roles in productions such as the BBC series Z-Cars and The Billy Plays, will add his name to a new bridge, just metres from his family home. Unveiled to the public on Wednesday 8th March 2017, this marks the opening of a further section of the Connswater Community Greenway linking C.S. Lewis Square, Mersey Street and Victoria Park.
