Connswater Community Greenway Phase 2 Construction Update

Works on the Connswater Community Greenway move full steam ahead with great progress on multiple sites across East Belfast.

Moving along the Connswater River from the Sydenham Bypass the contractor has piled both sides of the river and has been making steady progress with the installation of a reinforced flood wall. Downstream at the Holywood Arches works continue on the new event space for the C. S. Lewis Square, with the placement of Scottish Whinstone walls and granite paving.

Progress on the Connswater Community Greenway continues with works now stretching from the top of Cregagh Road right through east Belfast to Victoria Park.

At The Holywood Arches section which includes the C.S. Lewis Civic Square paving has now been completed for the performance area with works now focusing on the wall surrounding this space. Also at this section works continue on earthworks, drainage and ducting for lighting within this space.

National recognition for Queen’s University’s public health research on the Connswater Community Greenway

Research carried out on the Connswater Community Greenway by Queen’s University will feature in an exciting new online programme, ‘Improve and Protect.’ The programme will explore some of the UK’s major public health challenges and the work being carried out to address these issues by various organisations including the UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health Northern Ireland, based at Queen’s University.

The Connswater Community Greenway makes consistent progress across most works fronts in east Belfast.

In section D5, Sydenham Bypass to Mersey Street our contractor, Farrans Construction have finished piling works on both sides of the Connswater River and have begun the installation of a reinforced flood wall.

Big Lottery Fund Board visit the Connswater Community Greenway

Last week, the Big Lottery Fund’s UK Board and senior management team were in Belfast to see the impact of Big Lottery Fund investment in communities across Belfast. During their time here they visited the Connswater Community Greenway to see how things are shaping up.
