Easter Bunny Spotted at Dixon Playing Fields

Easter Bunny Spotted at Dixon Playing Fields

Bloomfield Community Association held an Easter Egg Hunt in Dixon Playing Fields for children from both their playgroup and after-schools club. The event was funded through the Connswater Community Greenway Activity Grants Programme and was the first event to be supported under this scheme. The Easter Egg Hunt involved local children from the Bloomfield area designing and painting their own Easter Eggs which were then hidden by playgroup staff at various locations around Dixon Playing Fields.

The children, wearing rabbit face masks and handmade headbands then set off in search of the eggs. A surprise visit from the Easter Bunny rounded off the Easter Egg Hunt before the children returned to the community centre for a party bringing to a close what was an exciting and fun filled morning for all involved.

Speaking after the event Karen Purdy, Centre Co-ordinator for Bloomfield Community Association said “the children have really enjoyed their Easter Egg Hunt and it’s brilliant to see them outside enjoying the fresh air and space afforded by Dixon Playing Fields. Based at Hyndford Street and so close to Dixon Playing Fields and ‘the Hollow’ at Elmgrove we are looking forward to the completion of the CCG which represents a huge opportunity for organisations such as ours in East Belfast, enabling us to hold more outdoor activities in an environment that is both accessible and safe for the children in our care.”I

n supporting schemes such as this the Connswater Community Greenway Team want to encourage local people to visit the CCG area and to raise the profile of the project within the community in East Belfast. The Activity Grants Scheme offers local community groups the opportunity to develop and deliver events and activities that actively promote and bring people to the Connswater Community Greenway.

Further events are planned and will be delivered by local community groups throughout the summer. The activity grants programme is currently closed for applications however there will be a further call for applications later in the year when it is anticipated further community activities will be supported through this programme.
